Back Pain

It is the most common area to have pain, therefore, it is the most common condition we treat at Empower Chiropractic in Overland Park, Kansas!
Back Pain
Headaches
One of the most common types of headaches is known as cervicogenic headaches, which translates to pain coming from the neck. Chiropractic is known to treat many types of headaches including cervicogenic, tension, and migraine headaches, and many people find relief from our methods of treating these conditions.
Numbness
Numbness is a problem with the communication a nerve is sending to your brain. Typically this happens when a nerve is compressed by either inflammation, a muscle, or the discs in your spine. Depending on what is causing the numbness will change how we treat your specific condition. Many people find relief through Chiropractic care for numbness that radiates down an arm or leg.
Disc Herniations
Disc herniations occur when the discs between the vertebrae of the spine are damaged. A herniated disc is a leadage of the fluid from inside the disc outwards and most commonly will compress a nerve root. Common symptoms include severe neck or back pain, radiating pain, numbness, or tingling down an arm or leg. We treat this conservatively through Chiropractic adjustments and spinal decompression to help alleviate the compression on the nerve.
Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain occurs for many reasons. One of the most common is from work related injuries when manual laborers work with their arms overhead often. Shoulder pain can stem from many different causes. Many of these are treatable by Chiropractic and conservative care.
Biceps Tendonitis
Tendinitis is inflammation that causes pain in the tendon of a muscle. Biceps tendinitis is pain at either the shoulder or the elbow where the biceps muscle attaches. It is more commonly in the shoulder. This condition occurs from overexertion and overuse injuries such as weightlifting.
Tennis/Golfer's Elbow
Tennis elbow and Golfer's elbow are similar injuries occurring on opposite sides of the elbow. Tennis elbow is on the back of the elbow and results from the backwards swinging of a tennis racket. Golfer's elbow is pain on the inside of the elbow and occurs from swinging a golf club. These are repetitive strain injuries and we have many modalities to treat these conditions effectively!
Carpal Tunnel
Carpal Tunnel occurs when the Median nerve gets compressed as it crosses the wrist into the hand. People with carpal tunnel experience symptoms such as numbness into the thumb, index, and middle fingers and can have pain in the wrist associated with it.
Knee Pain
Knee Pain is often a problem with either the hip or the ankle. The knee acts like a door hinge between two mobile joints, it bends and extends and has some rotation capabilities. We look at knee pain by evaluating the hip, knee, and ankle and treat based on our findings!
Sprains/Strains
Sprains are microtears or to the ligaments while strains are microtears to the muscles and tendons. Both often occur at the same time due to the relation of muscles and ligaments around the same joint. These injuries often heal on their own however benefit from care to the soft tissue to ensure the joint returns to full strength and function to reduce the risk of future injury.
Neck Pain
Neck pain is another common condition we treat in the office. The neck is responsible for holding the head up on our shoulders and also providing the range of motion necessary to turn our heads in the many directions they can. Therefore, the neck is often a common source of pain and chiropractic is a fantastic treatment for neck pain.
Spinal Injuries/Whiplash
Spinal injuries occur when the ligaments around our spine get stretched to the point they develop micro tears in them, commonly called a sprain. Most people think of an ankle when they think of spraining a ligament, but it is possible to do this to our spines as well. This commonly occurs in motor vehicle accidents and contact sports such as football. Spinal injuries to the neck can create conditions known as whiplash injuries. We treat these conditions very gently and progress you through care as you improve.
Tingling
Tingling occurs when a nerve acts a bridge of communication between your brain and body gets compressed somewhere along its path not allowing that communication to occur properly. It is not a total lack of communication as that causes numbness, but it is a signal that there is something wrong and is uncomfortable to experience. Many people find relief through Chiropractic care for tingling that radiates down an arm or leg.
Sciatica
Sciatica is compression of the Sciatic Nerve at the nerve root where it exits from the spine. Most people experience low back pain with radiating pain, numbness, or tingling down one leg. This is a common condition we treat at Empower Chiropractic in Overland Park, Kansas. You may experience weakness in the muscles of the leg affected by Sciatica and may find it difficult to walk due to weakness or numbness.
Rotator Cuff Injuries
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles that surround the shoulder joint and provide stability to the joint. Injuries to these muscles can cause shoulder pain, A/C joint pain, and back pain. Chiropractic care can help treat an injured rotator cuff muscle and proper rehabilitation through exercise will help strengthen these muscles once healed.
Elbow Pain
Elbow pain is often a cause of repetitive motions such as using a screwdriver or hammer. The repetitive motion eventually leads to strain in the muscles and tendons causing pain. We at Empower Chiropractic in Overland Park, Kansas have many modalities to help with this pain along with exercises to improve your elbow strength!
Tendonitis
Tendonitis is inflammation that causes pain in the tendon of a muscle. This condition occurs from overexertion and overuse injuries such as weightlifting. People respond well with chiropractic care and exercises to build strength and mobility to the joints and reduce the strain to the tendons.
Hip Pain
Many people experience hip pain from sitting in a chair for hours on end, doing manual labor, or from sports injuries. Hip pain can occur in the front of the hip close to the groin, on the side of the hip, or in the back. We can help hip pain in all three of these locations through gentle and focused care based on your specific problem.
Meniscus Injuries
The meniscus is soft tissue cartilage inside the knee that provides a smooth surface for the bones to glide on and reduce pressure on the knees. These can become damaged most commonly from sports injuries such as getting tackled playing football. Meniscus symptoms are most notable by pain deep in the knee, walking down stairs, and popping, clicking, or locking of the joint upon full knee extension.
Ankle Pain
Ankle Pain most commonly occurs from sports injuries and results in sprain/strains to the ligaments and tendons around the ankle. But Ankle pain can occur for many reasons as we age. We treat ankle pain after specifically identifying the cause to your pain and focusing care around that specific problem!
Inflammation
Inflammation is the body's response to injury and how it heals. However, inflammation can become uncontrolled causing chronic pain such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and more. Inflammation has many different causes ranging from damaged body tissues, poor diet and imbalanced gut bacteria, to other variable lifestyle factors.
